There is no doubt St Anne’s links is a proper links course. Once again the weather was perfect. The course must be a brute in the wind with par fours difficult to reach on a relatively still day. The bunkers were all brutal with no sign of a flat bunker anywhere. My companions play here regularly and it was not uncommon to see them taking 3 or four shots out of bunkers. I largely avoided them more by luck than judgement. Really loved playing this course.

The story of the day has to be an incident that took place on the 10th /11th. We were getting ready to play our tee shots on the 11th when I heard a muffled shout of fore from the group behind, the wind being against it was difficult to make out, less than a second later I heard a whooshing noise as a golf ball travelling off the 10th tee hit me on the head knocking me to the ground. Fortunately I was wearing my new hat and it must have cushioned the blow as I am here now writing this blog.

I will soon be travelling up to Kilmarnock and a little break from reciprocals to partake in some Scottish open comps, interspersed with a visit to Bruntsfield links.
