So after an hours drive down to Berwick I found my way to Berwick, careful not to go the wrong way down bus lanes. I had a really nice drive through to port area of Edinburgh passing the royal yacht Britannia on the way.

I found myself at the club and welcomed in the Green Cafe, following the sign saying ‘Golfers this way,’ There were a couple of people there and I ordered my coffee and bacon sandwich, before being directed to the delightful lady in the corner handing out cards. The practise area was a football goal with a tight net and a 3m2 putting green so my hopes were not high for the course.

The lovely lady tracked me down and told me they had changed my partners as the first were injured and introduced me to Campbell and Bobby from Colville golf club in Glasgow here for a Golfing three days and staying in Berwick. They had played last year and assured me it was an enjoyable course.

As you can see they were not wrong. The views from the course were stunning. With the 8th hole over an inlet, which was really stunning. I must say I struggled on this one. The lads commented that a lot of people do as they think of the inlet. I think the real reason was as I approached the tee I realised that the tee itself was on a little slither of land with sheer drops on either side. Those who know me realise I get very fearful of jumping and as you can see the tee is quite near the edge, so I did the worst thing possible not reach the out of bounds marker and had to play the shot twice and thus walk onto the promontory twice. Very scary.

My lucky 7 was my fourth on the front nine having found the internal out of bounds or very punitive rough, like the Gogs once in, you probably don’t find it and when you do, you wish you hadn’t . This was a shame as I felt I was hitting the ball well despite my fatigue. So well in fact that I was going through the green and into the out of bounds beyond. There was a significant wind and it was pretty cold out there. None of this prevented me thoroughly enjoying the course.
There are plenty of great courses out there and I sometimes think that it is easy to judge by the facilities and forget most of the enjoyment is found in the 3 and a half hours playing the course.

So to conclude I was very uncompetitive but had a great time with Campbell and Bobby from Colville in Glasgow

Spent a little time in Berwick after golf and another lovely town with the fantastic railway viaduct entering it and the City wall and Castle which as well as the sea you could see from the course.
