So my first gap filler Open comp was at Kilmarnock municipal and cost me £10, but don’t be fooled, this is Scotland and it was a wonderful parkland course with a good few stunning holes. Such as its own postage stamp. 128 yards to a tiny green.

I arrived a met my playing partners Ronnie having his first game after a big operation and played remarkably well considering he had lost muscle strength. And Dave who has given up his Golf membership to play 35 plus opens a year in Scotland within a 17 mile radius of his home and saving a pretty penny. Not really an option for us in England where you can’t play opens regularly unless you are a scratch player. Dave was going great until a couple of 3 putts on 15 and 16 damaged his card.

So I had arrived early and asked if I could add a bit more charge to my battery. They said that I could, but offered me an alternative of taking one of their Golf Scooters, stating that you could use them in Seniors comps. So I thought that will be something unique and gave it a try.

Unfortunately my focus for the first three holes was entirely devoted to not falling off the trolley as I was weaving in and out of the trees on a few noticeable gradients. My game improved and on the last two holes I got within inches of winning one of the £400 pounds worth of prizes available.
I am here in Edinburgh now staying with my old cricket friends Robbie and Niki and briefly seeing Zara, who is 18 months but needs her sleep, so we only had a few mins together. I have however, just had my homemade Chicken, Leek, Bacon and Mushroom Pie and home made chips and broccoli. What a joy.
Day off tomorrow, camping by the sea near Archerfied (Not playing there) before my next Open at Haddington on Saturday £20 ouch.
