Well got to Newark after having a lovely nights sleep at my aunty Sandra’s, in a bed and everything. Had chicken casserole and everything.

It took an hour and a half on the A1 to get down here from Leeds. I was welcomed by the golf pro who told me he’d introduce me to the lads who go out every week. So they were playing 3 balls and added me to a group, which included Pat, Ian and Richard.

I partnered Ian and we played a four ball better ball which went to the last hole. I had played pretty well but sliced my drive into the trees and it was left to Ian who drained a 30ft put to mean we won on the last and £ 3 was thus deposited in my pocke. The course was tree lined with some delightful par 3s but the banter and my three partners could not have been more hospitable.

The club it appears has had a difficult few years and has been taken over now. The clubhouse has had a considerable upgrade but I think the most notable change is the introduction of the grass cutting robots which are constantly cutting fairways around the course. .

This one was coming straighter towards me as I was playing my shot and stopped 3m away as if considering what to do. I played my shot and continued past and it carried on with it’s cutting. When the batteries tire they pop back to their charger to re charge .

The club have agreed for me to stay the night in the car park so I will probably pop down the range in a bit and hit a few more balls.
